AMUKA
(SHEILA BRODY) //
lives in New York City,
When
songwriter and vocalist Amuka (Sheila Brody)
sings, she transports to another place, as each
chord of her voice touches a tender zone in the
heart. Her tone is familiar - her words too,
as they stir deep down in the soft part of your
wounded soul. She makes your heart joyful, makes
you shout, as she disperses soothing medicine
to make everything alright through lyrics in
which she tells the story of a woman whose spirit
cannot be broken. They are stories we can all
relate to.
Her roots appear to point to a heavy funk lineage
- she was discovered by George Clinton in her
native
Detroit. And she remains one of the Funk Mob's most
definitive voices with a legion of fans around the
world. Of her early mentor she says, "George taught
me to write down all your thoughts and ideas that you
feel in your heart. Nine times out of ten it turns
into a song. That's how I write my songs." |

ULTRA
NATE //
lives in
Washington, D.C.
Throughout
her enduring 13-year journey as an innovative and
internationally renowned singer / songwriter /
performer, Ultra Naté has never been your
typical dance music diva. She has-with much perseverance,
hard work, and talent-successfully shattered the
image of the cookie-cutter dance princess. Along
the way she confidently erased borders that divided
pop, rhythm-and-blues, and dance. When she first
appeared in 1989, with the international club anthem "It's
Over Now," no one could have possibly predicted
what would become of clubland's original diva of
despair. As is often the case with the typical
dance music artist, artistic longevity is not considered
to be part of the overall plan. Her illustrious
musical career has since spawned 4 studio albums
including Blue Notes In The Basement (Warner Bros.,
1991), One Woman's Insanity (Warner Bros., 1993),
Situation: Critical (Strictly Rhythm, 1998) and
Stranger Than Fiction (Strictly Rhythm, 2001),
as well as, various hit singles such as "Scandal," "Rejoicing," "It's
Over Now," "Show Me," "Joy", "New
Kind of Medicine," "Found A Cure," "Divine
Love," "Desire," "I Don't Understand
It", the top 40 pop hit "If You Could
Read My Mind" (with Amber and Jocelyn Enriquez)
and "Twisted." |

MARY
GRIFFIN //
lives in
Houston,
In
each generation a voice comes along that embodies
classic beauty, defining poise, and soul stirring
ability. Mary Griffin, raised in the deep southern
bayous of Louisiana, first heard melodies that
were both enchanting and inspiring in her fathers
small country church. Outside of the church however,
it was the steamy rhythm and blues along with soul
music that Mary imitated. Through these vices she
picked up the soulfulness of gospel music and the
edgy blues vocals that gave her local fame in Louisiana.
Griffins voice also opened the doors of education
in her favor and she attended Grambling University
- majoring in performance on full music scholarships.
After attending college Mary moved to New Orleans
to pursue her career as a solo soul artist. Her
overwhelming stage presence and seductive vocals
landed her regular venues around the city. With
a voice comparable to a fine mosaic of Aretha Franklin,
Whitney Houston and Tina Turner, Griffin established
her creditability as a leading artist in the birthplace
of Jazz and Blues music. As her claim to fame rose
in the Crescent City so did her reputation within
the music industry. Not long after moving to New
Orleans, Mary Griffin found herself accepting offers
from various production companies to record music
for upcoming films. The films Coyote Ugly and Driven
featured hit songs that Griffin recorded including
the song Perfect moment. In addition to recording
hits for soundtracks in film; Griffin cameos in
the film 54 and recorded the track entitled Knock
on Wood. Thereafter, Griffin was signed to Curb
Records and released the internationally acclaimed
album Purified. It was from this album that major
recording artists Patti Labelle and Celine Dion
were captivated by Marys power ballads I surrender
and Anytime. Griffin would soon receive a phone
call from Labelle that inquired about her availability
as a background vocalist for the R&B phenomenon.
Mary accepted the offer and began to hit the road
on tours and concerts dates with Patti Labelle.
Griffins addictive voice on her debut album also
prompted Celine Dion to re-record I surrender.
Through these new developments, Griffins status
as an artist was heightened and she had the opportunity
to share the stage with many R&B/Soul music
greats such as Mary J. Blige, Aretha Franklin,
Luther Vandross and Christina Aguilera. August
2005 brought yet again another challenge and change
for Griffin. While being based out of the New Orleans
area she was forced to relocate due to the damages
and havoc that Hurricane Katrina caused. Mary,
her band and her fans were all disbursed across
the country leaving her in the hands of the only
one she has always relied upon, The Heavenly Father.
Mary says We all have a purpose in life, we just
have to walk in it, and thats exactly what she
did. While regrouping in the Houston, Texas area,
Mary recovered most of her band and made some new
additions. Additionally, she began performing regularly
at the Red Cat Jazz Café; one of Houstons
most premier Jazz venues. While clinging to her
faith steadfastly, Mary continues to tour with
various artists and is embarking upon her sophomore
album which promises to leave her fans with the
same feelings of enchantment and inspiration she
once heard in her fathers little country church. |

Philadelphia,
Ohsha
Kai was discovered by ACT 2 Records at their open

Philly born Ohsha has been singing since she can
remember. Raised in a home filled with the sounds

Winans, she was deeply influenced by soulful riffs,
heartfelt melodies, and passionate powerhouse vocals.
She wasn't exposed to dance music until highschool,
and as she recalls, "the first time I heard
house music, I knew I was in love". Ohsha
worked professionally in Philly doing backup vocals
for a lot of R&B singers. However Ohsha realized
she was being pigeonholed into Urban music, and
really wanted to pursue her passion, dance music.
Her first release on ACT 2, is an upbeat soulful
dance stomper called "Free Your Mind",
written by Josh Harris and due for release in early
2006. |

CRYSTAL
WATERS //
lives in
Washington, D.C.
A
New Jersey vocalist who majored in computer science
at Howard, Crystal Waters had one of 1991's surprise
left-field hits with "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)." The
song had both a potent message and wonderful vocal
that smartly mixed anger, irony, and humor. None
of Waters' other songs were quite that inspired,
but her debut LP, Surprise, got her in the hunt.
Storyteller followed in 1994, and in 1997 Waters
returned with a self-titled effort. ~ Ron Wynn,

HEATHER
LEIGH WEST
//
lives in New York City,
It
is true that HLW is the legendary voice that first
DROPPED a HOUSE on you back in the mid-90's ~ the
same vocal that was used in "Feel It" -
sampled & effected - that was STILL asking: "WHAT'S
SHE GONNA LOOK LIKE WITH A CHIMNEY ON HER?" (although
many had no idea WHY she had a chimney on her - the
DROP fans knew all the gruesome details... lol - RIGHT
ON HER HEAD!) Sadly, neither song was credited with
her name, and so the legions of devoted fans have forever
had a big
QUESTION mark over their heads... WELL - here she is
- love her - because she LOVES YOU! Although that song
IS responsible for HLW continuing
to sing & create House music - that is BY FAR -
NOT the only style/genre/flavor HLW has under her belt...HLW
also penned "Set The Stakes High" as
a collaboration with German DJ DAHOOL - with mixes
from TOMCRAFT & GARY BRUCKHEIMER - The record is
on the MINISTRY of SOUND Compilation (German Edition)
as well as being on several others & is available
as a single on Kosmo & Robbins.
"ETERNAL
QUEST" BY DJ LIZA OF LIZA LABEL! (HLW can also
be found singing backup on Kevin Aviance's track
with LIZA "STRUT").

Jocelyn
Enriquez //
lives in
San Diego, Born
and raised in San Francisco, California, Jocelyn
Enriquez is the daughter of Filipino parents from
Manila and the province of Pangasinan. At the age
of 3, Enriquez had shown her prowess as a singer.
As a teenager, she became involved in a community
outreach program called the Young Filipino Entertainers’ Club.
Enriquez performed for ten years with the San Francisco
Girls Chorus. She also sang as a part of a top-40
cover band that her parents managed. Enriquez and
the band performed before Filipino social activities.
She also sang in churches. Her first performance
was a rendition of the Anita Ward hit Ring My Bell.
From that time on, there was no turning back for
Enriquez. The break that she was waiting for came
when she first signed with the Bay-area based Classified
Records. It was Glenn Gutierrez, a Filipino American
producer and composer, who convinced her to try
dance music. She tried it and I’ve Been Thinking
About You became a hit and it led to an album.
Two years later, she had two songs on the charts,
and by late April 1997, Enriquez’s first
single Do You Miss Me? had placed 49th on the Billboard
Top 100 singles chart, 7th in Singapore, and among
the top 20 in Canada. Now, Jocelyn Enriquez holds
the distinction of being the first Filipino American
to make it in the mainstream music industry. Dubbed
as the new “Queen of Freestyle,” Enriquez
was the first artist to be signed by Classified
Records, a Filipino-owned recording company when
it was established in 1993. When Enriquez’s
first single became a success, larger recording
companies began to take notice. Kormman Roque,
president of Classified Records says, “They
couldn’t believe that a small independent
label could put out that song, and hold on to it
for that long.” Jocelyn has now started her
own label, JEM Entertainment and truly a successful
music career awaits this Filipino American artist.
She has also devoted her Life to serve our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ. Her desire is to put out
Songs that glorify his name. God Bless you all!!!!! |

TERISA
GRIFFIN
// lives in Chicago
Terisa
Griffin is a promising new singer, songwriter,
and performer—promising only in the
widespread public sense. Audiences in her
adopted hometown of Chicago as well as the
City’s lucrative, behind-the-scenes
jingle industry are already in a passionate
love affair with the gifts she has to offer.
She sells out local nightspots with her one
of a kind show, warms up (makes that heats
up) concerts for the biggest names in music
(from Isaac Hayes, Ashford & Simpson,
Roberta Flack, Jerry Butler, Patti LaBelle,
and Rahsaan Patterson), and is a first call
for powerful players such as Congressman
Jesse Jackson not to mention the Prestigious
Urban League. Terisa Griffin is poised – like
a gathering hurricane – at the cusp
of major breakout stardom. Terisa reflects
of her accomplishments, “I’ve
been blessed, I don’t believe in luck.
Being on that stage…baby…it’s
almost as good as an orgasm!” Terisa
was born in the small town of Monroe, Louisiana.
Her father was a minister and her mother
was a homemaker. Terisa is the second daughter
of four singing sisters. Reverend Griffin
as well as Terisa’s grandmother was
an excellent singer, a calling that was passed
down through the family. Terisa remembers
with fondness how her father, who had perfect
pitch, taught them how to harmonize on Sunday
mornings. “We would sing ‘Jesus
Gave Me Water,’ all in a row on the
backseat of my father’s car on the
way to church.” In high school, Terisa
made the All-State Chorus for three consecutive
years. On a vocal grant, she went to college
where she became fascinated with chamber
music and jazz. Terisa began to write her
first songs by poems in a journal about love
and life. It was also in college that Terisa
discovered some other music—R&B
and Rock N’ Roll. “I’ve
always loved male artists,” Terisa
says, “…the rawness in their
voices as compared to the pretty female sound.
Luther Vandross’ voice is like an instrument
to me, very sensual. I appreciated Aretha
Franklin for her strength and soul, Tina
Turner for her zest for life and rough classiness,
and Patti LaBelle for her gospel edge. You
could never get over on my stern father with
a Patti album! And, oh my God, got to love
the Rolling Stones.” After tossing
a coin on a map, Terisa headed for Chicago
and landed national exposure singing backup
for Diana Ross on an “Oprah” telecast.
Ms. Ross pulled her out of the background
to sing her anthem “Love Conquers All,” a
gesture that moved Terisa to tears…but
only after she wore the audience out with
her performance. Now, it’s all about
her long-in-the making debut album, one that
promises to be a very personal and confessional
affair. “I can’t write anything
but what I honestly feel at the moment,” Terisa
demurs, “…and that is ever changing.
I wrote ‘I Still Can’t Stop Loving
You’ right after my father passed,
so it’s kind of sad. I also just wrote ‘Anymore’ which
is about being in love with someone who suddenly
doesn’t love you anymore.” Terisa
is in preparations for beginning a series
of One Woman shows. Part of her preparations
consisted of taking acting lessons from Ellis
Foster (of the Paramount Movie “Hoodlums”).
Griffin wrote, produced, and starred in her
three series of “One Voice, One Woman” shows.
Through her production company, Griffin Productions,
Terisa has successfully produced the following
productions: “Fantasy, A Tribute to
the Divas of Song and Stage” (Josephine
Baker, Lena Horne, Billie Holiday Ella Fitzgerald,
and Sarah Vaughn); “Queens of R&B,
A Tribute to the Queens of Rhythm and Blues” (Dinah
Washington, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin,
Donna Summers, and Tina Turner); “Song
Divas- A Tribute to Famous Song Divas” (Nina
Simone, Phyllis Hyman, Gladys Knight, Anita
Baker, Natalie Cole, and Patti LaBelle. Terisa’s
goal is to have a career as distinguished
as the Divas and Queens she pays tribute
to. One day, a promising young super talent
will be doing SRO one woman tribute to Ms.
Terisa Griffin. Rising star…Terisa
Griffin…A Talent, A Voice, An Entertainer
to be… |

MICHELLE SHELLERS
//lives in Baltimore The
shadowed city of Baltimore has produced
so many talented artists who remain hidden
from the world of entertainment. Of the
like, Michelle Shellers was born in this
small town on the 28th of October just
over a quarter of a century ago. Although
she stands amongst many talented visionaries,
she reigns as a gleaming comet in the face
of competition due to her vocal abilities.
Shellers acquired her songstress label
very early in life, being sought after
to add vocal flair to her church choir
as well as middle and high school events
and assemblies. It was during these years
that her mind was set on achieving her
prize, a breakthrough in the music industry.
After high school, Shellers studied voice
at the historical Howard University. With
the feeling of preparedness after college
year one, Shellers decided to shoot higher
and try out for the world renowned, Morgan
State University Choir. Not only placing
her close to home, but by studying under
Nathan Carter she felt that achieving such
an accomplishment would afford her the
hands on vocal coaching and discipline
she needed. It was during her time spent
with the Choir that Shellers built the
confidence and determination that lead
her to a later path of stardom. During
her last year with the Choir, the opportunity
of a lifetime sought and found Shellers
in her prime. This hungry new kid recorded
her first single, Rise with the production
team the Soul Providers. Rise along with
several other hip house harmonies was released
with Soul Providers and surprising, only
to this fresh faced kid, the single shot
up the dance charts here and abroad. The
news of this accolade converted the Baltimore-born-baby,
Michelle Shellers, to the sassy, Shellers
Superstar! Very soon after its release,
Rise opened the opportunity for Shellers
to perform here in the U.S as well as other
countries like Amsterdam and Canada. This
self-assured artist has blown the microphone
on stage in front of numbers surpassing
ten thousand, in confined crowds for live
television broadcasts, as well as hundreds
for the heated crowds in Baltimores own
Gay pride festivals and block parties.
Shellers hit the ground running with this
house track and has never glimpsed over
a shoulder since its release. Her performances
have seemed only to build since the singles
release year of 2000 and she, ironically,
rocks each party like its 1999! Shellers
powerful voice with alto soprano range
is what landed her mark on the Dance/House
music charts, but her vocal abilities fluctuate
between a myriad of genres ranging from
Opera to Jazz. With countless abilities,
Shellers will continue to make a strong
impression on the music industry without
isolation to one singing style. She is
sure to remain what the elements describe
as a shining star. |

THEA
AUSIN // lives in Los Angeles
Thea Austin fits many
categories: sultry diva, powerful vocalist, producer,
lyricist, and international performer and her music
continues to cross world boundaries. She has established
a foothold in the global music community and has used it
as a foundation for a brilliant and successful solo
career.
As the
former lead singer and writer of the dance collective
"Snap!", Thea was catapulted to international stardom as
the single "Rhythm Is A Dancer" took a firm grasp at the
number one position in Billboard Magazine and on
numerous video charts including MTV's and CNN's top 20
countdowns, making "Rhythm Is A Dancer" one of the most
memorable dance tracks of the 90's. "Rhythm Is A Dancer"
currently holds the 34th position on VH1's top 100 Dance
songs of all times.
1999 found Thea as the voice behind Soulsearcher's
massive international hit "I Can't Get Enough" which
still gets radio play. In 2000, Thea and Soulsearcher
scored again with the number thirteen U.K. hit "Do It To
Me Again," which Thea co-wrote with producer Mark
Pomeroy.
Perhaps one of the most memorable events in Thea's
career was performing as Soulsearcher at the Princess
Dianna and Prince Charles' "Party in the Park" in
London, England. Over 120,000 people attended the
benefit in Hyde Park where some of pop music's biggest
stars performed.
In 2001, Thea collaborated with Pusaka, the team of
Chris Cox and DJ Irene, to record "You're The Worst
Thing For Me (I'm Addicted)". Written by Thea, Chris
Cox, and DJ Irene, it was heralded as the anthem for the
summer of 2001. It zoomed to the top of Billboard dance
charts and hit number one. The track garnered major
radio play and has been featured on the hit TV shows
"Sex And The City" and "Queer As Folk". The single can,
also, be heard throughout the hit independent film,
"PUNKS", starring Vanessa A. Williams (Soul Food/New
Jack City). In fact, at the 2002 Winter Music
Conference, the song won the award for "Best Underground
12 Inch".
In November 2003, Thea scored again with another number
one Billboard Breakout "Just About Had Enough". The
single is listed as The Beat Hustlerz featuring Thea
Austin which stormed toward the top of the Billboard
Dance Charts.
Since then, Thea has spent much time touring
internationally and writing and recording new tracks
including "Deelight In The Light Of Life" and a cover of
Company B.'s "Fascinated". She's, also, learned to play
guitar (which she loves) and is working at finishing her
first self-produced album entitled, "Acoustic Austin".
Thea Austin may be a dance music diva to some, but she's
also as down to earth and loving as they come. She has
the utmost love and appreciation for her family,
friends, fans and music and continues to give them 100%.
And if you've ever met her, you'll understand what I'm
sayin'... She's loyal and true to the greater good, and
continues to give you all the soul power that she's got!
Stay tuned... There's more to come... |
